Gene
D. Townsend, 83, of Pekin, died at 4:26 PM, Tuesday,
November 18, 2008, at Pekin Hospital. He was born
April 9, 1925, in Kenneth, MO., the son of Chester and
Lora Bates Townsend. He married Alberta Harlan on
October 4, 1968, in Pekin and she survives. |
Also surviving are
one daughter, Diana (Dennis) Saurs of Manito; one step-daughter, Marnie
(Tommy) Lively of Georgia; two step-sons, Roy (Debra) Dagit of Pekin and
Everett (Shiela) Dagit of Florida; three grandchildren; 12
step-grandchildren; two great grandchildren; 17 step-great
grandchildren; one brother, Marion Townsend of Pekin and one sister
Thelma (Mel) Sjolie of Amarillo, TX.
He was preceded in
death by two brothers and two sisters.
Mr. Townsend worked
at CPC International in Pekin, retiring in 1980 and was a member of
First Baptist Church in Pekin. He served in the United States
Marine Corps during WWII, was a member of VFW Post #1235 and Masonic
Lodge #29, both in Pekin.
His funeral will be
at 11:00 AM, Friday, November 21, 2008, at Davis Mortuary, Tremont
Chapel. Pastor Mark Friday will officiate. Visitation will
be one hour before the service at the mortuary. Burial will be in
Mt. Hope Cemetery, in Tremont, with full military honors.
