Doris Ellen Moore, 88, of Tremont, passed away peacefully at 10:30 am Thursday, November 21, 2013 at her home with her family by her side.
She was born June 14, 1925 in Springfield to Charles and Jewel Nickelson Zimmer. She married Robert W. Moore on August 28, 1948 in Springfield and had a 65 year committed, loving, relationship. Their marriage was an inspiration to all that witnessed it.
Surviving are her husband, Bob, of Tremont; one daughter, Barb (Steve) Delaney of Morton; one son, Steve (Debby) Moore of East Peoria; three grandchildren, Andrea (Mike) Dykman of Lincoln, Krista Moore of Colorado Springs, CO, and Emily Delaney of Morton; three great grandchildren; one brother, Dr. Russel (Cheryl) Zimmer of San Marino, CA.
She graduated from Springfield High School in 1943 and Illinois State University with a Bachelor in education in 1947. She taught in elementary and junior high schools in Ottawa, Peoria, and Tremont.
She loved flowers, flower arranging and showing flowers, cooking, and gardening.
Doris was a lifelong member of Tremont United Methodist Church. She was a member of Tremont Junior Women's Club, Retired Teachers Organization and the original A.F.S. Committee. Doris served 11 years on the Tremont District Library Board and was also a member of the 3rd Tuesday Night Book Club. She was a member of Tremont Homemakers for 53 years, took and active part in the Tremont Turkey Festival, participated in Relay for Life, and the Red Hat Society of Tremont.
Her funeral will be at 10:00 am Monday, November 25, 2013 at Tremont United Methodist Church. Pastor Dan Perry will officiate. Visitation will be from 1:00 to 3:00 pm Sunday at Davis Mortuary in Tremont. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery in Tremont.
